Flowing along the South Carolina-Georgia border, 15 minutes from Westminster, SC, the famous Chattooga National Wild & Scenic River provides whitewater rafting adventures and breath-taking views through the beautiful Sumter National Forest. Divided into four sections, trips along Section 3 provide a perfect outing for families and youth groups, while Section 4 provides more continuous rapids and steep drops for skilled enthusiasts.

Kayak On the Chattooga

Spring highwaters bring the ultimate thrill of whitewater rafting, such as seen in the movie Deliverance, which was filmed on the Chattooga. Trips during the fall provide the spectacular display of foliage. The height of the fall leaf season is usually around mid October.

Several outfitters near Long Creek, SC -- 13 miles north of Westminster -- are able to offer equipment, instruction, guided trips, clinics, lodging and even videotapes of your whitewater exprience. Discounts are usually available during the early spring and late fall. Guided floats on Section 3 are available during the Apple Festival the week following Labor Day.
