Gary "Gomer" Craine Gives David "The Mayberry Deputy" Browning a Piece of His Mind

Mayberry Comes Alive!

When the dogwood and azeleas are blooming and Spring is in the air, it's time for Mayberry Days in Westminster, South Carolina! On April 15 and 16, 2011 the first "Maryberry Comes to Westminster" festival kicked off along historic Main Street and drew large crowds.

Headlining the entertainment for the event were serveral tribute artists - look-a-likes for characters on the old Andy Griffth Show - Barney, Gomer, Goober, Floyd, Otis, Howard, Ernest T. Bass and the gang. The characters, led by David Browning, the Mayberry Deputy, minged among the festival crowd handing out "tickets" and autographed photos.

The characters, long with a replica of Mayberry's Ford Fairlane police cruiser, were also featured in three Mayberry parades held throughout the day on Saturday.

Other highlights of the two-day event included Not Aunt Bee's Kerosene Pickle Contest, Mayberry Picnic, a look-a-like contest, a whistling contest and a street dance on Friday. Saturday featured Floyd's Pankcake Breakfast, a car and tractor show, a hog dog dinner and the VW Boys concert.

Of course, throughout the event live music was presented from three different venues and food and craft vendors sold their wares along history Main Street, just as they do for Westminster's fall festival, the South Carolina Apple Festival.
